Mysteries Monument For Ann Rawlins Sanders

Folklore has it that Ann jumped to her death from a cliff that overlooked the Cumberland River after having a fight with her fiance. The lantern on top was added and kept lit due to her being afraid of the dark. What is partially known is she married Charles H Sanders in 1832 and four years later at the age of 21 she passed away March 30, 1836. A burial mystery began in 1902 when a cemetery keeper stated she isn't actually buried under the monument but instead a Marion Steele is located at the boulder. It was stated that Ann is buried in an embellished box nearby the limestone monument.
