]]>The Battle of Nashville Monument, which honors the sacrifices of both Confederate and Union soldiers at the December 15-16, 1864 Battle of Nashville and the American soldiers who fought in World War I, was originally created in 1927 by Giuseppe Moretti, who was commissioned by the Ladies Battlefield Association.

After being almost completely destroyed by a tornado on March 31, 1974 and do to interstate construction in the early 1980's monies were allocated by the Department of Transportation for relocation.

The Tennessee Historical Commission in the early 1980's appointed a committee to restore and relocate the monument. Not until 1992 from the recommendation of Pam Garrett the chair of the Markers and Monuments Committee did it get fully restored and relocated on the 2.5 acre tract of land at the intersection of Granny White Pike and Battlefield Drive.

On 1999, a re-dedication of the refurbished Battle of Nashville Monument took place at its new location. The bronze sculpture of the young man and horses were refinished and sculptor Coley Coleman sculpted the new marble base, obelisk and angel out of granite as it is more durable than the original marble.

"African elephants live in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, although their range is now broken into patches. Small numbers of forest elephants live in dense equatorial forests of Central Africa from Zaire west to Mauritania, while savanna elephants are far more widespread in drier woodlands and savannas. Savanna elephants are now most common in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa. The suspected third species lives in both savanna and forest in west Africa."-Nashville Zoo

]]>A flock of Cedar Waxwing birds decided to stop in the backyard tree. While they enjoyed the labors of the woodpecker they took turns sipping the water or sap that is coming out of the tree.

During the breeding season you will find the Cedar Waxwing in the Northern territory of North America otherwise they travel in large flocks as far as northern South America.

The adult Cedar Waxwing with a length of around 5.75 inches, a short thin bill, pale brown crest, black eye patch and chin, pale brown head fading into pale yellow belly, darker brown back, dark wings with a thin red bar and black tail with a bright yellow tip.

The juvenile Cedar Waxwing have much duller, grayer head and body with blurry streaks on their underparts.

]]>It was rumored that the T-87 was favored by Hitler for its high speed, traction and reliability in cold weather. This might be the reason Tatra was allowed to continue limited production along side military vehicles.

The Lane Motor Museum was established in 2002, by Jeff Lane, in Nashville, Tennessee. It features the largest collection of European vehicles in the United States. Though they have over 330 vehicles they only have on average 150 cars and motorcycles, not typically seen in the U.S., on display.

The Museum is housed in a former 132,000 square foot bakery. The majority of the vehicles were built in the 1950s through 1970s but they do have some from the 20's and as current as 2000.

]]>The Ihle had a tiny, light-weight, all-steel body with a flat radiator, a windshield which folded down, and a pointed tail. Customers could purchase the body and install it themselves or deliver an old Dixi chassis to Ihle and have the body fitted at the factory. The vehicle you see here is an Ihle 600 body on a 1929 Dixi 3/15 da 2 chassis.

]]>The Eurasian Lynx can be found at the Nashville Zoo.

These medium-sized cats have stout bodies, long legs, large feet and stubby tails. All of these characteristics allow them to move quickly over short distances. Their soft, thick fur is usually grayish brown but may have shades of yellow or red. It is often marked with indistinct pale lines or spots. Their white whiskers frame their muzzle.

]]>Cliffs and rock formations in and around the Dunbar Cave that is located in Clarksville TN.

Dunbar Cave is located one and a half miles northeast of downtown Clarksville in Montgomery County. At one time the cave was the site for musical festivities, entertainment shows, adjacant to the lake a golf course, hotel and swimming pool. You can still fish, hike and have pinics on the park grounds but cave tours have been suspended after a bat from Dunbar Cave tested positive for White Nose Syndrome.

"Lemurs are social animals that will live in groups of 12 to 24 individuals. The females are dominant over the males.

Lemurs will engage in “stink battles” where secretions from scent glands are rubbed on the tail and wafted at opposing animals.
